As part of the ImportNET project, the RCID was approached to develop a plug-in module to be used as part of a suite of engineering tool designed to connect cross-domain and cross-cultural SME networks. The role of the cultural support service is to provide cultural related support and advice to engineers working in collaborations involving companies from different countries. This will enable engineers from different technical and cultural backgrounds to work together more efficiently in an ever growing worldwide economy.
In order for the module to be easily integrated into ImportNET and for future interoperability it was designed with a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) using Web Services. The two main components are the registration service that asks for the cultural attributes of a user and the check service that takes these attributes from collaboration users and produces results based on some sound mathematical algorithms.
Competancies applied include .NET Web Services, Service-Orientated Software, Multi Domain Engineering, ASP.NET, C#, MSSQL, NHibernate, NDoc, NUnit, Visual Studio, Cultural and Culture Related Support.
